Haus Carina- Absolute Active Resort

We were comfortable at Haus Carina, and there was plenty of room both inside and outside. The place is quiet, with a bus stop fairly close for the town center and Kitzbühel. We reached the upstairs apartment by an outdoor staircase, so it won't work for someone with a disability and could be tough if getting around is difficult. The apartment was very clean and had all the household basics. It's furnished in a somewhat dated way, as the pictures show, which made sense to me since the house isn't new and the price was right. If you're after a 4-star stay, this isn't it. We were happy with a cozy 3-star place and a fireplace, and I'd stay there again. We went at the start of October and hadn't realized the cattle drive down from the mountain pastures was on September 30th. If we'd known, we would have arrived earlier to see it.

The location is a real highlight, with great access to lots of hikes. The driveway is narrow and steep, but that's normal for Austria. If nature and outings matter more to you than accommodation quality, this place may suit you. At this price, people looking for a high-end stay probably wouldn't be looking here anyway. We rate it 3 out of 5. This was our third stay with Roulette Apartments in Austria, and it was fine again. We arrived after work, in the dark, and got friendly messages that made the late check-in straightforward. Picking up the key from a safe worked well. Finding the house was another story: GPS first took us the wrong way, then we couldn't tell where to go or where to park. The signs and lighting were poor, and it felt chaotic at night, though it all seems fine in daylight. We paid €170 for three nights, which felt okay. As other reviewers have said, things are very worn, but that doesn't bother us much. We did miss decent pillows, a fresh blanket for the rather unpleasant couch, and basics I think an apartment should have: salt, pepper, vinegar, oil, a hairdryer, and a bathroom mug for toothbrushes. The listing said each room had both a shower and a bathtub, but there was no bathtub. We couldn't find a heating control knob, so the instructions could explain how to adjust the heat. The broken shower holder and broken toilet seat, which pinches, seemed careless and avoidable. You can't expect a five-star apartment at this price, though. We checked in and out without meeting anyone, so if I hadn't mentioned our dog when booking, no one would have known. We paid €24 for the dog, or €8 a day, and I can't understand that charge. The apartment gets cleaned and vacuumed afterward whether a dog was there or not, so to me the fee is unjustified and extortionate since a dog doesn't add those costs. The whole floor was in such bad shape that the extra money clearly hadn't gone toward repairs.

The price is way out of line with what you get. The place was only moderately clean at best, the refrigerator didn't work, the Wi-Fi was poor, and the furniture was very dated. They also have a list of what they'll deduct from the deposit if something breaks, but every item's current market value is far below the amount they ask for. Very strange.

Nice, clean, and roomy. The description promised mountain views, but ours looked out onto the nearby forest instead 😉.
