The meals were the standout for my family and me. For €16, hotel guests get a three-course dinner with salad, drinks extra. The food was tasty, well balanced, and nicely presented, with a choice of meat or vegetarian dishes. The vegetarian plates had their own unusual ingredient combinations, not just meat dishes adapted without meat. The service was just as good, and for that price it felt like a real culinary experience. We were also made to feel very welcome. We got a warm greeting when we arrived, and one evening the owner of this family-run hotel came by to see if we were happy and offered us a complimentary glass of champagne. The rooms were roomy, clean, tidy, and had what you would expect for the price. There’s an elevator, too. The location is great for a short hike to the castle ruin of Kirchschlag. The town has plenty of shops, two supermarkets, pretty architecture, and a great bakery almost next door. I’d happily recommend both the hotel and restaurant. I can’t fault our stay.

They were flexible with vegan choices, including offering us a vegan ice cream option, which we really appreciated. The food was great, and the service was very good. A nice, historic place with a distinctly local feel.

There was loads of space, and the staff and family wore masks. Sanitizer was readily available, unlike at the other place we visited earlier today. We hadn’t booked, but still got a warm welcome and a super meal. I had the onion-garnished beef after starting with goose soup, then Tichy ice. We came here after leaving a restaurant 6-10 kilometers away because its owner hadn’t followed the COVID rules. It takes a lot for me to give five stars, but this place deserves more than four.

Hotel Post felt like one of those rare places where every part of the stay works. We were treated like family, and my wife was glad there was an elevator. The pillow was a highlight for me, too, and helped me sleep well every night. We loved all four days in Kirchschlag, and I slept like a king each night. That wasn’t the case at the Hilton in Toronto or the four-star hotel in Mostar, where we’d just checked out before continuing our trip. Thank you, Ernst Renner
