Hotel Aurach

The bus stop is only a three-minute walk away, and leaving our ski equipment in heated lockers at Intersport by the bottom of the Hahnenkamm ski lift made things much easier with our 8- and 10-year-olds. Our room was just right. It faced the road at the front, but the windows kept the noise out, even for me as a light sleeper. Maybe the tiredness after skiing helped too. We had a lovely week over February half term in 2022. Even though our flight arrived late, we were welcomed warmly and given a hot meal. The staff were very accommodating, adjusting dinners where they could for the children and one vegetarian. The food was typical Austrian cooking, done well, with a few options and three courses each night. We really liked it. I can’t recommend Hotel Aurach highly enough for its price and location. Happy skiing!

The main drawback is getting to Kitzbuhel in the evening. Ski buses run there, but stop at 7pm, so after that you need a taxi. The hotel itself is clean, with a lovely fireside area, a pleasant bar, and a good ski room with proper boot warmers. A pint of lager cost €3.80. We found the staff great and the hotel well priced. We chose half board, and the food was tasty and filling, so you won’t go hungry. It could perhaps be more imaginative.

The only thing that bothered me was the cigarette smoke in the bar and reception. There seemed to be a lot of it, and I was surprised the hotel allowed indoor smoking in Austria. That’s why I’ve given four stars. We spent a week at hotel aurach on a ski trip with 30 other people. The staff were lovely, the food was amazing, and our room felt fantastic and cosy. It’s right on the bus route to kitzbuhel. I don’t understand the three-star rating, as it could easily be a four-star hotel.

We were there from Dec. 27 till Jan. 3rd 2015 and came away really disappointed. The rooms are small, and the bathroom has a late-50s look. The sauna is tiny, with room for four people at most, and there was no light in it. Darts and billiards were advertised, but neither was available. Drinks at dinner weren’t included, even though that was part of the package we booked. We also had to pay extra for New Year’s Eve, although we thought it was included.
