The hotel looks super nice, and the staff were excellent. Katrin especially took extraordinary care of me during my first two days, when I arrived sick. She brought food to my room herself, checked in with me twice a day on WhatsApp, and even offered to move me to a bigger room so I’d be more comfortable while I was ill. Many thanks to everyone!
For over $300 a night, we expected much more from the Mondschein. The location was good but confusing: there’s a hotel and a “chalet,” which is really another hotel up the hill. It’s a little closer to the slopes but farther from the small town. The in-room breakfast was nice, and the bartender was cool. Our room was small and sad looking, with concrete floors and an uncomfortable bed. We booked a “private double” room, which I think is their worst room, but it was still super disappointing and not nice enough to feel like part of a 4-star property. I was also frustrated about the Epic pass partnership. I have the Epic pass and expected to redeem our three-night stay for three days of ski passes, as the Epic website stated. Instead, the hotel requires a five-night stay to use this benefit. That was the only reason I booked this hotel, and although they’re technically allowed to set their own policy, it’s likely to confuse American tourists trying to use the benefit. It also doesn’t make sense to me to require five nights for three ski days.
We had a really frustrating stay at Mondschein Hotel & Chalet. When we were heading to pick up our equipment in St. Christoph, we had to change buses and missed the second one by just three minutes. That left us facing a two-hour wait because the shuttle situation in the area was a disaster. We called the hotel for help, and someone came to drive us, but then charged 60 euros for a seven-minute ride without telling us the price in advance. It was one-way, and when we questioned the charge, they offered no solution. The food was another big disappointment. The mac and cheese tasted old and was extremely oily, and it was definitely overpriced for the quality. When we tried to discuss the problems with staff, they basically dismissed us and said none of it was their responsibility. It felt like the hotel cared more about money than guests. Based on our stay, I’d strongly recommend avoiding it.
The walk through the village was well worth it for lunch on that sunny terrace. The food, wine list, and service were all excellent. Book a terrace table.
Stuben made a great base for our hiking weekend, with good trails around the Arlberg area close by. We came for a relaxing break and it exceeded our expectations. The place was very clean and thoughtfully designed, and the private sauna was good too.
