Hotel Restaurant Römerhof

By the time we arrived at 20.40 pm on Sunday, the hotel seemed deserted and reception was empty. A man working in the restaurant got us our keys, and I managed to get a beer, but the kitchen had closed and he was heading home at 21.00 hrs. The rooms were uncomfortably hot, with no ventilation, air conditioning or fans. Opening a window let in mosquitoes, while lowering the blind reduced the airflow. My partner said the pool wasn't clean enough to use. The bed was worn out and gave little support, and the stretched cotton flannel bottom sheet had a hole. The hotel needs refurbishing, and the price should reflect better facilities and upkeep. We went to the nearby town centre for food and drinks. On our return, the door was locked. As I pulled the handle shut so I could lock it again, the handle came away. The lock wouldn't turn, and the key got stuck. A man round the back tried to help and gave me my room key from the ring, so I went to bed. At 6.55 am, the key was still there. Reception is meant to open at 7.00 am, but we waited until 7.05 am and nobody showed up, so we had to leave without settling the bill. I later received a polite request for a transfer, which was fair enough. This wasn't my best experience here.
