Nussböckgut

The terrace is a lovely spot for a relaxed evening, with a modern feel that still has rustic charm. We also stayed in one of the comfortable, modern rooms in the vineyard, with a view of the vines. The atmosphere was warm, and breakfast at the Heuriger was a dream, with fresh local products. At Nussböckgut in Leonding, near Linz and at the foot of Gaumberg, vineyards, asparagus fields, and a small forest surround the estate. Its history goes back to 1323, and it has grown into a leading green asparagus farm and winery. Since 2019, the Velechovsky family has run Upper Austria's first wine Heuriger here, combining old traditions with a contemporary style. The vintner's food is a highlight: cold cuts and cheeses, homemade asparagus, regional spreads, and bread made with their own produce or local ingredients. The seasonal dishes, especially the asparagus in spring, are worth trying. Their wines range from fruity whites to robust reds, including Grüner Veltliner and Zweigelt from the nearby vineyards. Fresh and regional, they pair beautifully with the food. There are homemade juices too, and new wine (Sturm) in season.

We got to enjoy the excellent house wine and some cold dishes because we arrived on a Thursday. Getting to our room meant climbing a steep staircase, and it was several meters from the parking lot. The frosted glass windows blocked the view of the greenery. The "standard" room is fine for one night, though rather small for a longer stay.

The staff were friendly, quick, and very helpful, and breakfast was wonderful. We really liked the snacks, especially with the wines, and the mini-fridge in our room was stocked with essentials. They'd also left wine glasses there. The wine vending machine is just a minute's walk from the rooms. We'll definitely come back and are already looking forward to seeing you again 👋🏻

The owner is always around, and the service is warm and attentive. We had the vintner's snack and pickled sausage, both outstanding, flavorful, nicely presented, and made with regional ingredients. The fresh bread stood out, and the homemade wine was a perfect match. Prices are very reasonable too. The cozy beer garden is a great place to relax. I'd recommend reserving a table. I'll definitely be back.
