Hotel Grieserhof

The spa in the Wellness Tower was out of this world, and breakfast was amazing, with charming staff to match. My best friend and I had the best time at Hotel Grieserhof and want to come back. For what it offered, the price was the best we found, and the hotel was perfectly placed for winter activities. We crossed the hanging bridge, which terrified me, but I did it, took the cable car to the top of the Zugspitze, went sledding, and enjoyed delicious hotel meals at the start and end of each day. The owner was at the desk during checkout with his “assistant” and adorable pup, Rocky, who you might meet if you’re lucky. I was speechless when I first arrived. Thanks for the wonderful memories. The only great thing was the view. The staff were very unfriendly and rude. Even small questions seemed to stress them out, and they’d get angry and say they didn’t have time or something like that. It left us feeling uncomfortable on holiday. The spa also wasn’t ready, so it wasn’t pleasant to use. Much too expensive for such low quality.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but had dinner at its restaurant. The cheeseburger was outstanding, from the bread and vegetables to the meat, cheese and fries. The pizza was good, if not Neapolitan, and good for Austria. The spaghetti was a little bland. Apple strudel with ice cream and the banana split were amazing. Prices felt fair, and portions were good for the price. There was a broad, varied food and drinks menu. The restaurant opens at 5:30 pm, though I can’t remember when it closes. AMEX wasn’t accepted, but Visa and Mastercard were. I’d eat there again without hesitation.

A very pleasant hotel with a very good restaurant. Be sure to get the right pass for the Erhwalder public pool, as your room key won’t get you in and you’ll have to pay full price. That’s quite the opposite of what we were told. I’d also ask for a room at the back, otherwise traffic may keep you awake much of the night.
