The road didn't bother us, even though our room faced it. We only noticed traffic when the windows were open. We came for winter sports and found the ski storage very useful; the rooms were really clean and there was a great sauna too. It's a lovely place, and the host made us feel very welcome. They also have a farm and sell their own cheese and meat.

The family who run Schloss Saalhof didn't seem especially keen to chat, and getting a smile could be a bit of a challenge. The website may leave you expecting a warmer welcome, and there aren't farm activities like milking cows or wandering through flower-filled meadows. Still, the old rooms are charming and beautifully kept, and the setting in the Austrian Alps is stunning, with great views and plenty of outdoor activities nearby. Come for the place and scenery, but keep your expectations about hospitality in check.

Fresh pastries in the morning were a nice touch, and the owners were friendly and easy to communicate with. We rented the whole guest house for a weekend with a larger group, and we all fell in love with it. The historic building has been renovated with care, combining modern comforts with a cozy, traditional farm stay feel. The rooms are very well equipped, so I especially recommend it for families or longer visits. I hope to return.

Kathrin was a great host, and there was lovely bread each morning. We booked the Schloss penthouse, the top four rooms, for 18 people. Everything was brand new, with plenty of facilities. The grill hut was included, as were the sauna and a wonderful room for relaxing. I can't recommend this place enough.

Don't skip breakfast, it was really good. The castle was a great stay, and Katrin was kind and helpful. Our upstairs room was spacious and clean, with everything we needed, including a dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, and soda water maker. There are activities and a playground to keep kids of all ages occupied.
