Hotel Seehof

The villa feels like the place of someone with a real eye for beauty, and the owner makes guests feel welcome. Villa Seehof is a charming spot right by the lake, with room to relax away from the mainstream tourist crowds. Breakfast is delicious, and the coffee was finally good after several tries elsewhere in Carinthia. It’s a lovely way to start a day by the lake or head out on a bike. We’ll be back!

The service here feels genuinely warm and attentive, and the owner has a thoughtful way about him and plenty of stories. I felt at home. There’s a Viennese touch, including a proper Negroni on the jetty before a swim. Today I swam to the island in the lake, and tomorrow I’m off on a bike ride to the Drava River. Nothing’s missing here, and the villa’s atmosphere stays with you through a wonderful holiday. I could see this becoming a lasting love. I also slept wonderfully in the comfortable bed, and breakfast came with a superb double espresso. It feels international, but not foreign.

I first stumbled on Seehof 11 years ago with my daughter, and we’ve been enthusiastic regulars ever since. There may be fancier hotels by the lake, but I refuse to go to them. I always insist on Seehof. It’s a magical place, and, if Max wants, I’ll spend the first week of July there every year. It’s the best holiday of the year, and I plan to keep going until I’m old and worn out.

The beds were so comfortable we slept like babies, and we loved the intimate atmosphere and the very friendly staff. We had some wonderful days at the end of summer, with cold beer and Italian espresso. The lakeside setting is a dream. An insider tip!
