Hotel Rauter

We had a really pleasant evening in the Rauterstube. The dinner was amazing, and there was a great choice of wines. We enjoyed it a lot and will be back.

The location is great, the garage was useful and had space, and the spa looks really nice and clean. The cleaning staff were extremely kind and friendly. We liked breakfast, though much of the fresh and hot food had run out whenever we went, whatever the time. I also want to thank the owner lady, who kindly made me a little takeaway breakfast bag when I said I had to leave for work before breakfast started. Our experience with the rest of the staff was very different. We were treated like low class citizens, with snarky passive aggressive comments and eye rolls, mostly from reception and restaurant staff. I understand a film crew may not be the usual crowd for their fancy taste, but we paid the extremely high room prices, followed the dress code, and were polite. We were allowed to book with a dog for an extra 18 euros per night, but there was nowhere to take the dog except the room, and staff were rude about it every day. The maisonettes are nice, and I bet they’ve been updated after the many comments here about the outdated interior. Still, there were lots of carpet stains and moisture damage on the walls. The towel hanger was broken, and the night lamps came away from the wall when touched. There was very little space to hang anything. The dinner restaurant felt pretentious, with extremely high prices and dishes that had great ideas but seemed prepared without care. The schnitzel was the greasiest and wettest I’ve ever had, with a tiny side of overcooked potatoes, and cost 26 euros. When we ate as a bigger group, some people didn’t get bread, most didn’t get the spreads that usually come with it, and some dishes were missing ingredients. I bet they were understaffed. It’s not a child friendly place. No splashing or playing is allowed in the pool.

I booked through Booking.com for myself and my 10 year’s old daughter. When we arrived late one February evening, Hotel Rauter in Matrei said my daughter wasn’t included in the confirmed price. They told me we wouldn’t get a room unless I paid double. I showed them the Booking.com confirmation, which clearly included her, but the hotel said its agreement was with Booking.com and had nothing to do with them. Several similar cases are confirmed, and I believe Hotel Rauter is systematically trying to cheat guests travelling with children. It’s a disgrace to treat tourists in Matrei this way and give the village a bad reputation. Shame on you for your greed and arrogance. I hope you don’t treat your employees the same way. Many thanks to Hotel Goldried, who welcomed us so nicely and professionally and turned our week into a success.

The room was quiet and very clean, and breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and responsible, and the location was good too.
