Hotel Stadt Melk

The room was magnificent, and the hotelier was helpful with suggestions for local places to eat and drink. They also sell locally made products. I stopped for one night while cycling across Europe, and this may have been the best hotel of my trip. It's right on a lovely little town square beneath the abbey. Thank you! ❤️

The gentleman who checked us in was terrific and pointed us toward the Abbey, with tips for food and drinks too. He also took care of our laundry for a reasonable price, and it was ready when he said it would be. Wonderful hotel.

The rooms were spotless, and we had a nice breeze at night, so the stay could have been perfect. But we were cycling the Danube and stopped in Melk for the night with our folding Brompton bikes, which are usually accepted in most places. The man who greeted us was the most unpleasant I've ever met. If he'd simply explained that hotel policy didn't allow bikes inside, I likely wouldn't be writing a negative review. Instead there was yelling and a nasty attitude, with no explanation. We'd already paid, or we would have left. Guests can use a bike shed on site. The complete lack of hospitality makes this hotel impossible for me to recommend.

I stayed here in summer and really enjoyed it. The receptionist and the breakfast waiter were both lovely and easy to talk to, and they spoke very good English. I'd visit again, and hope I get the chance.
