Schlosshotel Mondsee

Right in the heart of Mondsee, the hotel is beautiful, with old-world charm. The rooms are spacious, breakfast has a generous range of good-quality food, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Comfort was a letdown, though. The so-called double bed was two single mattresses pushed together, with an uncomfortable gap, and I slept badly. In summer, the blinds let in lots of light, so the room was already bright by 6 a.m. There are no blackout curtains. Sound carries terribly too: hallway doors, conversations, running children and suitcases on the tiled floors were all easy to hear. Evenings were noisy from the restaurant echoing through the courtyard. The church bell rang every hour through the night, with one gong every 15 minutes as well. The spa wasn’t relaxing for me either, with kids shouting, playing and jumping into the pool with inflatable toys. The adults-only area is right beside it, so it wasn’t peaceful there either. For all its charm and good location, I wouldn’t return.

Renting the city bikes for free was a real plus. With bike paths around the lake, they’re handy for exploring the area. The hotel itself is a beautifully renovated monastery, a lovely place to enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the small town and lake. The rooms have been nicely redone and are still in good shape. Breakfast was excellent, both the selection and the taste, and I especially liked the pastries 😋

The check-in and checkout went smoothly, and the receptionist was exceptionally friendly. There’s a lot of attention to detail and love for Mondsee and its guests. The hotel’s history and architecture are beautiful, the small spa is cleverly designed and relaxing, and the food was good quality and met expectations. I did notice mold on the grapes and Parmesan at breakfast. Some dinner buffet items, including ham and melon, seemed to have been put out again in the morning and didn’t look fresh. The restaurant staff were friendly, though they seemed a little stressed. It was an unforgettable stay, thank you!

The Benadick restaurant, through the courtyard, is a must. Everyone there was professional and in good spirits, especially Felix, our waiter, who went out of his way to make our visits enjoyable. We’ll definitely return to the hotel and this beautiful little Austrian town. Booking directly was easy. Edda at Reception was super friendly and professional from the first email, and explained everything before we committed, which was reassuring. Jana greeted us at check-in and was just as professional. The hotel is lovely, with underground parking and lifts straight up to it. Our room was clean and suited us really well. Breakfast had a wide selection and free Prosecco 😋👌. There’s free mineral water on the first floor too, though you need to get glass bottles from reception. One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed at, excellent in every way.
