Hotel Karwendel

We first came to das Karwendel Hotel in 2019 after walking past and deciding to try the restaurant for dinner. The food, warm atmosphere, and excellent service won us over, and we’ve kept coming back to stay ever since. We’ve visited in summer, winter including New year, and early fall. Every time, we’re delighted by the kindness and professionalism of the staff and owners, the clean rooms, and the beautifully balanced dishes with wines to match. We especially recommend the gourmetstube, galadinner, and chateau briand. The hotel has everything you need for a great holiday. The Achensee region has breathtaking nature and plenty to do, and even after several visits we still find more to discover. To us, staying here feels like coming home. Pertisau is charming, though other parts of Austria have much more to offer winter sports fans. At the hotel, the 3/4 board is very generous, so don’t expect to lose weight 😀. The facilities are top notch, including large wellness areas for families and quieter spaces without children, several saunas, and a heated rooftop infinity pool. The staff and owners are extremely professional while still being friendly and genuinely caring. An impressive hotel.

For what it offers, this felt totally overpriced. I’ve stayed at most of the 4+ star hotels around Munich, and this one was a big disappointment. The service was hard to get. We had to track people down, and even then they seemed reluctant. No one explained the hotel’s services or offerings, so we missed afternoon tea, and there was no spa menu anywhere. Getting food meant hunting for staff again, so we gave up. We booked a suite, but the room felt like the same standard as a Dulex room at other hotels, with no nice view. The price just wasn’t justified. In the restaurant we were seated facing the car park. Even with plenty of empty tables, moving seemed impossible. We asked twice and were moved for our final dinner. Breakfast was very average, with no special touches like smoothies or fruit you find elsewhere, and the coffee was average too. There wasn’t even water available. When we asked for it, we got friendly eye rolls. The location could be better, and there are nicer places nearer the lake. The family pool is small, in the basement, and doesn’t have nice views, which wasn’t great with kids. The kids playroom was really sad. Basically, it’s a decent 3 plus star hotel charging like a 5 star place.
