We first stayed here with our children 17 years ago and had such a lasting, wonderful experience. By chance, instead of skiing in another country, we chose to come back for a few lovely days in the Salzburg ski region. Alena and Erwin Quehenberger were very helpful with the booking. The hotel had only just reopened around the 18th for the start of the winter season. It used to be known for the best spare ribs in town, but a few years ago the restaurant changed to a vegan concept, with a trendy, creative and especially healthy menu. We had two double rooms on the third floor, right beside the sauna area. Breakfast, served from 7:30 to 9:30, was excellent: homemade yogurts, plenty of freshly prepared egg dishes, and everything needed before a full day skiing. We especially liked the bacon scrambled eggs. The hosts are warm, friendly and accommodating, which makes their 9.2 rating on Booking.com understandable. We were just as impressed this time as on our first visit. Hotel Gasthof Brügler is a cozy 3-star hotel with clean, comfortable rooms, a fantastic sauna area for unwinding after skiing, and outstanding value for money. It also makes a great base for different ski areas around the region, and Radstadt has free ski shuttle buses to nearby resorts. During our stay, we also enjoyed a charming Christmas market and various weekend activities.

We came for dinner after seeing that the restaurant advertised vegan and vegetarian food, and wow, it really impressed us. The starter was an eggplant take on steak tartare. It looked beautiful and tasted fantastic, easily one of the best things we’ve eaten in ages. I’d have loved to photograph it, but I’d left my phone behind. The main courses were delicious and very generous too. We were surprised to be the only diners, since the food was so good and such a welcome change from the usual fare. Give it a try if you’re in Radstadt.

They have a whole vegan menu with plenty of choices beyond the usual curry or chilli, and it’s easily the best vegan menu I’ve seen at a non-vegan restaurant. We got the vegan Kaspressknödelsuppe (veggie broth with vegan cheese dumplings) and Eierschwammerlknödel (chanterelle dumplings) with spinach and tomato. There were vegan desserts too, but we were in a bit of a hurry and already full from the starter and main. We’ll definitely come back to try dessert! 😋 We asked how the vegan dumplings were made, and the chef was happy to explain. Next time we stay in or near Radstadt, Brüggler will be right at the top of our list. We won’t make it a one-time visit!

Right in the heart of Radstadt, this is a great little bed and breakfast. The staff are super friendly, and the food is local and good. There’s a lovely relaxation room with saunas and a steam room for evenings. Plus, six or more ski resorts are within 20 minutes!
