Mountainspirit

Coming back from a day in the mountains, we were confronted aggressively by the host. We had rented an apartment, not a hotel room, for a few days with our dog. Without our knowledge or consent, he had gone into it while we were out and taken pictures of the place and all our belongings. He was angry about dog hair on the bed and couch, which could easily be brushed off by hand, even though we had paid 15€ per night for the dog and another 50€ cleaning fee. He insulted us repeatedly and told my fiancee that she, as a woman, should clean the place. After that extremely chauvinistic remark, he threatened to bill us for cleaning the whole apartment. We packed immediately, tidied up, which only took a few minutes despite his outrage, and decided to leave. The host had disappeared and wouldn't answer our calls, so we left the key and went, even though we'd already paid for the stay in advance. Later, when we tried to rate Mountainspirit on booking.com, we couldn't. The host had told booking.com that we never stayed there, so we couldn't leave a rating. This was one of my worst travel experiences, and I'd recommend avoiding the place.

I'd give zero stars if I could. While we were away and our things were still in the apartment, the owner went in and took photos. This is an apartment, not a hotel, and he was extremely rude to us. He complained about dog hair, although we'd already paid 50E for cleaning and another 15E per night for our dog. He threatened to charge us more and insulted the way we live. He also told me that because I'm a WOMAN, I should be CLEANING. I have a PhD and, in all my years as an academic, had never heard a comment like that before. We left straight away, before the paid stay was over, and he wouldn't answer our calls to check out. We lost our money and were insulted by the owner. STAY AWAY!

A pleasant stay, and just right for a family.

We stayed for a week and could happily have stayed for several more. The terrace was a dream: step out each morning with coffee under an old apple tree and take in the magnificent mountains all around. Inside, it's a complete apartment with two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a perfectly equipped kitchen and, finally, high-quality mattresses. Every little detail feels considered and consistently carried out, with a clear vision behind the delightful place. Before arriving, I'd read some reviews mentioning supposed problems with the owner, and I don't know what those guests were doing or where the claims came from. The person who looked after us before our first day was as top-notch as the apartment itself, very polite and helpful with everything: parking, where to go, finding the nearest playground, checking attractions online, buying tickets, borrowing an umbrella, fresh towels and much more. This place will be one of my favorites.
