Hotel Stadlwirt

Cash only. This is about the restaurant on Sunday 20th July 2025. Friends recently bought a house in Rangersdorf, so we wanted to try the local hostelry. We booked for 1 pm, then realized they close at 2 pm. We checked and found that the kitchen closes at 2 pm, though guests can stay until 3 pm, so we moved our meal to 12.30 to have time to eat. The setting is pleasant, with a terrace view across the valley to the mountains. We chose to sit inside because outdoors you can't be sure of avoiding smokers. The restaurant was clean and had a good traditional feel. When we arrived, we waited in the hallway for a while before anyone acknowledged us, then we were told to choose any table. Menus took a while to arrive and they took our drink order, but after the drinks came we waited again before anyone took our food order. The food was tasty, though one person in our group found their dish a bit too salty. No other food complaints. Someone else, maybe staff or family, cleared our plates but didn't offer a dessert menu. Our original server was chatting on the terrace, so I went to ask. She gave us a pointed look at the clock as she brought the menus, though the desserts were straightforward and shouldn't have been a problem. We placed our orders. We heard the kitchen bell ring to say the desserts were ready, but our waitress was chatting with other guests and didn't respond. After it rang a second time, I went to collect them myself. The desserts were good. Once the plates were cleared, we waited again after asking for the bill, and our friend eventually went through to pay. The location and food are good. Don't expect fast food, and that's fine. But staff should keep track of where each table is in its meal and respond accordingly. If they'd been more on the ball from start to finish, we'd have finished earlier and they could have enjoyed a well-earned afternoon off.
