Schloss Munichau

The main problem for us was cleanliness, especially in the bathroom, which didn’t feel properly cleaned. The dining room also needed more attention: cutlery wasn’t clean, tablecloths had dried food stains and didn’t seem to be changed regularly, and staff used napkins from the table to clear crumbs and scraps. That felt unhygienic. The family running the place were friendly and welcoming, and I respect how hard they work, but the basics, especially cleanliness, really need improvement. The location is convenient and there’s plenty of parking. We aren’t demanding guests and didn’t mind the old, worn furniture. I even liked some of its quirks. The room was warm, the sheets were fresh and clean, and my side of the bed was comfortable, but the bed squeaked so much that whenever I moved at night, both my partner and I woke up. It was also quite short and not ideal for anyone over 180 cm. Breakfast was included and had an acceptable selection. Dinner was set each evening and generally tasted fine, though the portions were small. One night, we got what seemed like leftovers, a strange meat and pineapple stew with a tiny serving of rice, while other guests had schnitzel and fries. That felt odd and disappointing.

The food was very good, and the bus stop across the road makes it convenient to get to the ski slopes. It’s a lovely old castle hotel, full of history, with funny little entrance doors and rooms that feel like they belong in a castle.

We spent a long weekend with friends at Schloss Münichau. It was a great place, with a fantastic breakfast and excellent value for money.

A big thank you to Christina and the whole staff for making us feel so welcome. Breakfast was perfect for us, with fresh baked goods and the option to order something special. Dinner was amazing too, three home-cooked courses every night, served by restaurant staff who were kind and professional. This is one of the best authentic hotels we’ve stayed in. It’s well placed for skiing and hiking, and having the ski bus stop right by the hotel is really convenient. We had such a nice stay and will come back to Austria and Kitzbühel to stay at Schloss Münichau. I’d recommend it for skiing or hiking trips, or simply spending time with a view of the ALPS.
