Althof Retz

The room was cleaned and the employees were friendly, but several things made this family stay difficult. Our kids' beds hadn't been made up until we called reception, and we were short on towels too. The shower temperature kept changing, which was especially annoying for the children, aged 3 and 5. We also thought the food was poor for the price.

A really relaxing place, with modern wellness facilities and large, clean rooms. Some rooms could use a little renovation, though. The staff are welcoming and professional, and the food and wine selection are very good. Each time we come, the experience seems to improve.

The pool looks out over the vineyards, which was lovely, and the rooms were comfortable and very clean. The hotel is also conveniently close to Bahnhof. Food was okay. I was surprised that my room had apparently been assigned to someone else as well, and they didn't offer compensation. We also found the spa door shut and had to track down a cleaning lady to get inside.

After more than a week on the road with our dog and baby, we were pretty grubby and needed a rest day. Everywhere else in Retz was booked, so we tried this upscale hotel spa as a last option and got a budget room for 115€ a night, without spa access. The staff were really friendly, and there was a secure bike garage with plenty of space for our bikes and trailers. Breakfast was fantastic. The bed was too soft and sagged in the middle. With the window shut the room was hot and stuffy, but open it and rain came in.
