Hotel Zum Mohren

Breakfast was fantastic, and the restaurant is a must go. A very friendly pup greeted us when we came in. Our room had been nicely updated and felt cozy, with a comfortable bed and an amazing view. The bathroom was a little small, but it’s a bathroom. The hotel is beautiful and right in the town center. Outdoor parking is at the back, along with the underground parking entrance. We didn’t get to try the pool or spa, though they looked great and very updated.

We first called the Hotel late in the evening after changing our plans in the Alps, expecting to stay one night. We liked it enough to add three more. The room was spacious and comfortable, with slippers and a bathrobe in a bag for Wellness, an umbrella for rainy weather, and a bottle of water to cool down. After a mountain climb on Sunday, no taxi service picked us up at around 17 o'clock. We called the Hotel, and the Manager drove out himself to collect us, free of charge, in about 15 minutes. The pool was big enough for a quick swim to cool off after climbing, and the Wellness area had tea, juice and fruit for relaxing.

A serious warning for people with celiac disease or other food allergies. We stopped here only because the owner had promised they could prepare gluten-free food for celiacs. The escalope served to my celiac child looked suspicious, so my husband asked three times whether the Schnitzel was definitely gluten free. Each time they assured us it was safe. After a few bites, we found out they’d used regular breading by mistake, and my child had a severe reaction hours later. The kitchen chef insisted the breading was made from buckwheat, but couldn’t prove it. He also promised to write an apology letter to the child, which still hadn’t arrived half a year later. We were "lucky" that two female employees were working that day: they had the courage to admit the mistake and tell us immediately. Not everyone who works there has the empathy or guts to own up to mistakes. We later learned the gluten-free breading is stored right next to the regular breading, making cross-contamination impossible to avoid. This place is unfortunately dangerous for people with celiac disease or other food allergies. I recommend staying away.
