The bill included a tip automatically at checkout, which felt completely inappropriate given the service and food. We waited about 15 minutes after ordering before someone came back to ask if we wanted to order, as if our order had never gone through. Staff were arguing in front of guests, and the atmosphere was uncomfortable from the start. The pizza tasted strongly of a frozen supermarket pizza, and the spare ribs looked and tasted unappetizing. The quality was far below what I’d expect from a hotel restaurant. We found several empty tables when we arrived without a reservation, which should have warned us. We only checked the Google reviews after sitting down and wish we’d looked sooner. Hopefully this helps others think twice before eating here. Definitely not recommended.

We were lucky to get a recently renovated room, which was a lovely surprise. The decor is a little dated, but I think that’s part of the hotel’s charm. We’ve stayed here many times over the years and always get a warm welcome. The dinner staff were fantastic, the food selection is good, and the evening cheese board is amazing. Also enjoyed the Latino tunes at breakfast!

I’d read the reviews before my recent ski trip and was a little worried, but I needn’t have been. My room on the fourth floor was clean, comfortable and warm, and was well serviced every day. I didn’t hear noise from the club in the basement, though I don’t know if it was open. The public areas, such as reception and the bar, are dated, or you could call the style classic Austrian. The restaurant was more than adequate, with a good buffet selection. I thought breakfast and dinner were above average, though I suppose that depends on what you’re used to. Staff were helpful and attentive, and it was lovely to see the owner, Mrs Berger, around the hotel taking an interest in guests. This isn’t five-star silver service, but that’s not what I chose the hotel for. There was a slight smell of cigarette smoke in the stairwell, probably from people smoking on the balconies by the stairs on each floor. The ski room was the main drawback. It has heated boot racks, but the room itself was dark and grubby, and the security seemed questionable. The door was left wide open, though they say it’s locked at night, so someone could come in from the street unseen by reception and take equipment. I always lock my gear and suggest others do the same. The hotel could use a refresh, but it was more than adequate, and I’d stay again and recommend it.

The staff and owner were warm, friendly and very service-minded throughout our stay. Nothing seemed like a bother, and they made us feel comfortable. Our room was a highlight: it was spacious, modern and cleverly designed in the newly renovated part of the hotel, with a breathtaking view that made waking up a pleasure. The food was very good at both breakfast and dinner, and each meal felt thoughtfully prepared. We also liked the restaurant’s design. There’s a creatively designed spa on the first floor with a regular sauna and steam room. One floor below, you can swim in the pool or relax in the relaxation room. Berger's Sporthotel. Saalbach is centrally located, and this family-owned hotel was a very nice place to stay. It stands out as a top choice for anyone visiting Saalbach.
