Gertrud

For such an exorbitant price, I expected a cozy apartment with a small spa area in the apartment itself. Instead, Haus Gertrud was half-heartedly furnished, and the sauna was tucked away in a far corner of the basement, with room for at most two people. We had just one tiny towel each for the entire six days, and the “kitchen” felt more like where I used to work as a dishwasher in a restaurant than a normal kitchen. When we raised the sauna issue, since it was supposedly in the apartment, and tried to complain about other inconveniences, the landlords showed no understanding. They threatened to have the police remove us in the middle of the night if we kept trying to get a refund from Booking.

The owners threatened to have my family and me evicted by police if we didn’t delete our comment, so I’m writing it again. The apartment didn’t match the pictures on booking. The sauna was very small, with space for at most two people, and wasn’t private, though the pictures had led us to expect that. There were no chairs on the balcony or fresh towels, and the towels we got were much too small for the sauna. One towel each wasn’t enough for me. The kitchen wasn’t shown in the booking pictures for good reason. It felt like a restaurant kitchen and killed the relaxed vibe. I felt like I was 15 again on a school ski trip. The owners were very unfriendly and uncooperative when we shared our concerns. They talked about their own problems but didn’t try to solve ours. This apartment and its owners caused my family a lot of stress on a holiday, which has never happened to us before. Please do yourself a favor and don’t go there if you want a relaxing holiday.

The apartment has loads of space, and the kitchen is well stocked with stainless steel appliances, though there wasn’t a plug for the sink. There’s no laundry at all, and it’s a bit annoying not to have a toilet on the ground floor near the living space. When we arrived, the place hadn’t been cleaned and was a mess from the previous guests. The cleaners didn’t come until after 5 pm. It’s near the top of a hill, about a comfortable 15-minute walk back from town. That didn’t bother us, but others in the house weren’t as fit. The walk would be unpleasant in ski boots, so you’ll want to leave them in the locker in town. The path can get quite icy.

The room was clean, though it took us a few minutes to work out where it was. A little personal welcome when we arrived, or some human touch during the stay, would have made it even better.
