Kaiserlodge

We stayed in the “Natursuite Wilder Kaiser,” which gave us a huge amount of room: two big bedrooms, another room with two extra sleeping options, two bathrooms, and a living area with kitchenette across 90 square meters. There was also a very large sunny terrace. A third of the Kaiserlodge’s 44 suites and apartments have direct access to the lake. The mountain views are striking, and the suites are spacious and stylish. Since mid-2025 there’s also a new XL spa for sports and wellness. It’s for adults 16 and over, so it stays peaceful, without background music, apart from the occasional snore. It has herbal organic and Finnish saunas, a steam bath, a salt steam bath, and a very large gym. The 500-square-meter “Kraftschmiede” has Life Fitness gear, cardio machines, dumbbells, and barbells. After a workout, you can recover in the Finnish sauna with its automatic infusion or in the steam bath.

I’ve stayed here each year for a few years, and they keep making improvements. This time, though, I was bothered by how many dogs were in the hotel. It doesn’t feel like a place for dogs to me. Hotel Kaiser next door has more of that kind of atmosphere.

We came back for a second summer and brought more relatives this time. Everyone had a great time, especially the kids, who loved jumping into the lake from our lake-view suites. There was plenty to do nearby too: lunch at the top of Hohe Salve in Söll, the kids’ playground on Hartkaiser in Ellmau, and a fun walk with the children between Scheffau and Hartkaiser. The adult spa at Kaiser lodge is amazing, and we enjoyed the gym too. We’ll definitely return.

The rooftop spa is stunning, and the staff are exceptional. We’ve now had our second summer at the Kaiserlodge, which is still meticulously maintained six years on. The lodge is a striking idea, with two-level swim-up apartments that can suit two families sharing. We’ve also spent several winter holidays at the attached Hotel Kaiser. The setting is amazing. Hintersteinersee is just up the road for more freshwater swimming, and mountain bikes are available to hire locally. You can walk across meadows to the cable car, and free bus travel is included.
