Wander-Vitalhotel Steirerhof

A good choice if you want an easy, carefree holiday. The hotel has a relaxed, helpful service and takes care of things, including picking us up at the train station. They also offer guides who take you to beautiful places. The rooms were good and the food was nice.

Owner Hannes was always ready to help, and the included services were excellent value. We had 3/4 board with very good food and provisions, plus hiking guides. Markus did a fantastic job. There were also photos, the Schladming Summer Card, sauna access, and a train station shuttle. Tour requests were taken into account, and solo travelers had special group tables. The prices were attractive, too. Schladming and the Dachstein region make a beautiful setting. I’ll probably return :-)

I was very well looked after at the Steirerhof, both in the hotel and out on the hikes. The food was plentiful, the service very friendly, and I could use the sauna each day after a strenuous walk. The hikes themselves were fantastic, and even the first glimpse of the Dachstein massif promised a lot. All my wishes were met. We couldn’t climb the Dachstein during our week because it was hidden by rain clouds, but that was just the weather. Hopefully next time goes better.

The hiking days with Markus were a highlight. He adjusted the routes for the group and the weather, shared stories about the area and plants, and laughed along with us. Sometimes, I’m sure, he was laughing at us too, when we vanished into deep snow and couldn’t get ourselves back up 😄 I joined the solo traveler offer in March 2026 for a week of snowshoeing at the Steirerhof hiking hotel. We got all kinds of weather, from rainy, sunny spring days with pleasant temperatures to heavy snowfall 🙃😂. The service was five stars all the way, whether at reception, the bar, in the kitchen, or on the hikes. Even with only 8 guests at the end of the season, breakfast and the appetizers and salads were varied and plentiful, and always excellent. The cooking overall was outstanding. Coffee and cake after all those walks, especially after tours with Markus, were well deserved. The sauna area is small but nice, with a good range of saunas and a whirlpool. The relaxation room/conservatory could use a fresh coat of paint. I’m taking one star off for the room. My twin room with balcony was fine for the week, but a few things bothered me, though I know I’m nitpicking 😉. In the afternoons it sometimes smelled musty, so I aired it out and left the balcony door slightly open at night because the room was too warm anyway. The fluorescent lights took a while to come on and buzzed, so I mostly used the nightlights. The bathroom fan was loud even with the door closed, and I could hear the fan in the neighboring room too. I only found two power outlets, which made charging my smartphone, watch, e-reader, power bank, and laptop for evening work tricky, even though I was alone in a double room. Some TV channels didn’t work, but I didn’t have time for TV, so it wasn’t a big deal. I definitely want to return next year, whether in spring, summer, autumn, or winter 😊
