Hotel Garni Daniela Urich

We spent around eight weeks in a south-facing apartment, and the view of the Alps was amazing. The place was furnished like a five-star hotel, the staff were very professional, and breakfast was delicious. It’s right in the town centre, which looks wonderful lit up at night and has plenty of cafes and pubs, plus a lively nightlife for a small town of 5,000 people. Schwanenstadt is well placed, just 20 km from Traunsee and Attersee, with good bus and train links to Vienna and Salzburg. We also enjoyed the in-house events, including Italian night and the modelling show. We highly recommend HOTEL GARNIE. A five-star place to stay.

There’s plenty of free parking, and that was about the only real plus. The room was very noisy because the bar/cafe is right beside the hotel, with people partying late into the night. Cleaning standards were low: the toilet seats were dirty and there was hair on the shower walls. Breakfast was cramped, with barely enough room for my plate. I’ve never had to ask for food at breakfast before. We were offered cold cuts, ham and cheese, with just two cucumber slices and three cherry tomatoes cut in half, plus coffee, juice, and bread. Nothing hot was offered, though other guests had boiled eggs and yoghurt. It was strange service. The beds and blankets were also too small for tall people.

A friend booked a room for me for one night. On arrival, the owner called it a “last minute room.” We paid 85€ for an old room with old furniture and a musty smell. It was in a construction area and didn’t feel safe, and there was no Wi-Fi in the room. We weren’t given a choice, yet the full price was still charged.

A clean, practical room and a really nice breakfast with good service. It has the feel of a bed and breakfast in the city centre, and there’s free parking. A good option for a night or two.
