We first picked this place because it had car parking, but the courtyard and pool beside Krems creek were a lovely surprise. The views are amazing, and river walks start just outside the door. Norbert, the owner, was very welcoming. He speaks limited English, but we managed fine with charades. We had room 18, which was basic and very quiet, with a balcony. The walk up to the castle is worth doing for the views and the restoration work. If you meet Walter, the English-speaking castle restorer, it could make the visit a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A great break, with a clean basic room and good wine and beer. If you want a no-fuss room, this is the one.

The rooms are a little dark and the furnishings are older, but the pool makes up for that.

We felt very comfortable here. The host was kind and helpful, and we had a lot of laughs together. There’s a lovely atmosphere, with charm from the hotel’s older days. The garden is beautiful, and the pool is a great extra, especially in the summer heat.

The room was nice overall and clean. Around the rest of the hotel, though, there were lots of dusty objects that seemed to have been put there and then forgotten. It feels like a step back in time; the hotel’s best days are long past, but they’re doing their best with what they have.
