Skiing was fantastic, and the ski-in, ski-out setup at Hochfeldalm really is just five steps from my room onto the piste. I booked a last-minute ski trip through UK Company, Heidi, and felt a bit overwhelmed at first because getting to the accommodation meant crossing blue run 5. A lovely man carried my bags, though, and I had one of the best stays at this family-run place. Thank you, Kristina, Nikki & Eva. My single room (#2) was cozy and just right, with a very comfortable bed, Austrian duvet and pillows, a big sofa chair, desk and chair, and a swivel wall-mounted TV. The shower room was great too. Even the hairdryer was provided in a cute pink bag hanging on the bathroom radiator. From the balcony I could see the Wilder Kaiser mountains, and I loved hearing skiers whoosh past in the mornings. Watching the PistenBully groomers at night was exciting too. Breakfast was wonderful, with fresh semmels, cheese, ham, eggs, and jams. Dinner was so good, especially the steaks, and there was a little apres bar as well. A taxi to the village cost 20 Euros, though I caught a ride several times. I just loved it all.

The food was palatable, but the menu was limited, and that didn't seem to be because of Covid. You can order tap water, but it comes only in a large glass (.40l) and costs €1.50. And if, like me, you enjoy hot chocolate with cream and a shot of rum, expect to pay 100% more than 2019/2020 prices at restaurants in Austria. They did have the pandemic precautions in place, with hand sanitizer at the entrance, screens between booths, and Covid vaccine status checks. That’s where the positives ended for me. The staff were abrupt, nearly rude, and seemed to find it hilarious. 🤦♂️🤷♂️🧏♂️

Pretty basic food, nothing special, but fine if you need a quick bite between ski runs. It gets a little crowded, though the staff are friendly. The ghluwein is great!

My favorite traditional restaurant around here. The familiar dishes have an elegant touch, and the design and atmosphere are lovely. Service feels friendly and homey.

The portions are generous, and it’s a lovely place to stop for photos. It’s quite close to the bottom of the slope, handy if you’ve had a bit too much fun on it.
