Hotel Turracherhof

We were very happy with the breakfast and à la carte dinner, and the friendly, helpful staff made us feel welcome. The hotel was tastefully decorated with attention to detail during our Christmas stay, and the tidy rooms were very clean and nicely furnished. Its location near the ski slope and ski school was especially convenient for our family with kids. This was our second stay, and hopefully we’ll return next season. I highly recommend TurracherHof hotel.

The slope-side location is genuinely good, and breakfast was good too. But the positives stop there. This is not a 4-star hotel. We stayed for a week as a family with half-board, and the rooms felt outdated, with old pillows. Apart from one friendly receptionist, staff didn’t smile, barely said hello, and didn’t make eye contact. There’s no common area to sit in after dinner and no playroom for children. Everything ends at 9, leaving sleep as the only option. Breakfast runs from 7 to 10, but arriving at 9 already made us feel late. Dinner was the worst part. In a whole week, we didn’t have one decent meal. The soup and dessert were decent, but the main dishes were shockingly bad: tasteless, made with poor quality ingredients, and kid-sized portions. I’ve been coming to Austria all my life and have never had food this poor. It was definitely not value for money. I was surprised because the reviews looked good, but looking closer, older ones are positive and recent ones less so. It seems the hotel changed ownership and standards dropped. Most guests also seemed to stay less than a week. If you have no other choice, I’d suggest booking breakfast only and lowering expectations for the rooms and hospitality. I loved the ski area and will come back, but not to this hotel. At checkout, nobody asked us about our impressions. I hope management reads this and works on service quality, staff training and job satisfaction, and hiring better chefs. The place could be nice if the owners put in some effort.

They got my order wrong several times, and the Gröstle was nothing like it should be.
