Germanic food usually isn't my thing, but this meal was awesome. The sauerkraut and wurst were great, and the potatoes were fantastic. Prices were very affordable. It's about a 20-minute walk from a huge, gorgeous waterfall. If you're hiking up to the falls, go a little farther to eat here or stay the night.

The hotel is at the top of a steep slope, so keep in mind that although it's listed as just 2.1 km from the center of umhausen, getting down the mountain takes 10-15 minutes by car. You can walk, but that would take 2 hours or more. I came across this hidden gem in Umhausen in August 2019. The completely rebuilt Hotel/Gasthaus has fresh interiors, upgraded bathrooms, and even an infrared cabin in the rooms. The beds were very comfortable, the staff were nice, and there were dinner and breakfast options. There's parking outside, and I'd definitely stay again.
