Sonnhuette

The Sonnhütte is a rustic, secluded spot, surrounded by nature and far from everyday life, but it still has comforts such as Wi-Fi and a dishwasher. If you’re after peace, a break, coziness, and nature, and don’t mind carrying your own luggage, it’s a great fit 🌞 The 15-minute walk to the cabin was manageable even in the snow. We arrived at dusk and were given powerful headlamps, shoe spikes for the fresh snow, and backpacks for our luggage.

The setting is lovely, and the house has the basics, but the stay left us disappointed. Hygiene could have been better, and reaching the house means climbing a steep 100-meter path, so you need to be fairly fit. It’s conveniently about 10 minutes from Kaprun and near Weißsee Glacier World. We were shown to the house without any explanation of what facilities the apartment complex had or whether Sonnhuette guests could use them. The extra charges were another issue: we were billed 10 euros per dog per day, although the website lists 7 euros per animal per day. We were also said to have used 100 kWh in the cabin, which seems unbelievable given we were out most days and often ate out. I messaged about it and got only, “Thanks for the information, the prices on the website still need to be adjusted.” A real disappointment.

We stayed a week with our dog and found the cabin great for switching off from everyday life. The view is fantastic and really peaceful. It isn’t luxurious, but that wasn’t what we came for. It’s well insulated, and there’s a romantic fireplace for colder evenings, plus a large bathroom, fridge and dishwasher. Just be aware that parking is down by the owner’s house, followed by a 10-15 minute climb up to the cabin, with some steep stretches.

A lovely spot for two to get away for 3-4 days. We just listened to nature and enjoyed the morning sun, away from the everyday rush ☺️.
