Ambassador Hotel

We could hear everything outside, and it was so loud that even earplugs didn’t help. Before arrival and again at check-in, I repeatedly asked for a quiet room. The receptionist kept reassuring me that our room, and all the hotel rooms, were quiet. I found the hotel disappointing and felt it offered no extras, especially for the money. There’s much better value elsewhere. This city and hotel were a major part of our trip, which made the experience especially disappointing. In the evening there was no door person when we entered, and the lift didn’t require a key. Anyone could walk in from the street and go up to the rooms. I did that repeatedly without seeing any staff. Spend your money elsewhere.

The location is hard to beat, right on the shopping street with two metro stations a short walk away and lots of good cafes and restaurants nearby. The street view is amazing too. Our room was very big, with a large sitting area and dining table, which you don’t often find in a hotel. The antique furniture gave it charm. The shower was spacious and came with a bathtub and double sinks. The bed was okay, though quite small.

The Wi-Fi was terrible, like a dial-up connection from 30 years ago. The staff weren’t helpful, and the only thing I can give stars for is the location. We booked for three people, but the third bed was a small fold-out cot and extremely uncomfortable. The hotel couldn’t provide a proper bed or move us to a larger room, so we had to book another room for our son. In the end, we had the room advertised for three guests plus an extra room for two more. The staff made little effort to fix this, which was very disappointing, especially at a five-star hotel in the heart of Vienna. Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and we’ll definitely return, but not to this hotel.

The amazing location is the only reason for the two stars. The hotel is extremely old, and the carpets in the rooms weren’t clean at all. They put me on the 5th floor without telling me that the elevator only goes to the 4th, so I had to carry my luggage up and down one floor. It simply wasn’t worth the money.
