Citadines Danube Vienna

The entrance takes a little figuring out if it's your first time, especially if you don't speak the language. The hotel is on the second level among several buildings, but the escalators or lifts get you there easily. Once inside, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, with lots of places to put your things. We had two rooms next to each other, and one came with a kitchenette that had everything we needed for quick meals. There are handy places downstairs, including a small grocery shop, a noodle place, and an Asian restaurant bar. The reception has an espresso machine with plenty of coffee, and there's a gym and a little lounge bar with a nice atmosphere. For daily sightseeing, the location wasn't ideal for us, as the drive is about 30 minutes. There is public transport across the road, though, and taxis are easy to find when heading back. We'd heard some guests mention elevator waits, but we didn't have that problem ourselves. We'd definitely stay here again.

The Citadines team made our family feel very welcome. They were warm, friendly, and helpful, which stood out to me since hotel staff in Vienna can sometimes seem cold. They smiled, too, fancy that! We stayed for two weeks over the holiday season, and the place worked really well for us. The room was affordable for Christmas in Vienna, clean, modern, and cozy. It had a full kitchen, washer and dryer, pull-out sofa, deep soaking tub, large walk-in shower, and plenty more. Internet and TV were good, though we couldn't log into streaming services. The location was ideal, right on the U1 line, with a Spar grocery store at the doorstep and a shopping mall across the street. We'd happily come back.

The desk staff were excellent, and the hotel was otherwise extremely pleasant. It's in a great spot beside Kagran train and bus station, with an easy U1 ride into the central downtown areas. The rooms are really nice, especially if you get one with a kitchenette. I only discovered after checking out that there was a tea kettle tucked in the cabinet above the microwave. I couldn't get the door open and figured it was fake, but apparently you just have to push it. I suggested adding a sign and they agreed. I boiled water in a pot on the induction stove instead, which worked fine. The shower and beds were excellent, and the WiFi was great. Food options were limited. The top-floor lounge also seemed underused: I went in an hour and a half before closing and found it empty, with a bartender who seemed more annoyed than anything. I didn't ask for a menu or try to chat, so I wouldn't be a bother. It was a strange moment in an otherwise very nice stay.

We arrived late, around 23:00 on 02.01.2026, for a two-night stay with our two kids. The room was dirty and smelled strongly of cigarettes. The odor was unbearable, especially with a four-year-old, so we asked to move rooms. The front desk said there was no availability and refused. We then requested a penalty-free cancellation. Booking.com confirmed that in writing, and the hotel also accepted it. We had paid the full amount at the hotel front desk before check-in, but more than a month later we still hadn't received our refund. The room was poorly cleaned, the staff were unprofessional, and the situation was handled terribly. We don't recommend this hotel.
