Holiday Inn — the niu, Franz Vienna

We booked five nights but left after two. The room was nice and clean, and breakfast was good, though some glasses, mugs, and cutlery hadn’t been cleaned to the standard I’d expect. The service we got was nowhere near the price, and the whole experience was very disappointing. The location wasn’t ideal either. The rooms are advertised as air-conditioned, but the AC was switched off. I woke up drenched in sweat one night. I went to reception for help and found no one at the desk, it felt like a haunted place. Eventually a lady came in from outside and said she couldn’t do anything. She suggested sleeping with the windows open and said she’d tell management and arrange a room change. Nothing came of it, and I spent both nights without AC. The staff, when available at all, were extremely unhelpful. We were told a 15-minute parking ticket wouldn’t be useful, so we went to a nearby Tabak (tobacco store), where we learned those tickets are free. Even so, the front desk refused to give us one. The hotel had very few guests, and when we parked in its garage at 11 pm, we asked for a small discount since half the day was already over and we only needed overnight parking. Clara at the front desk turned us down immediately without trying to understand our situation. The staff seemed disinterested and unwelcoming. As tourists, we expected basic help, but it felt like they just wanted to hand over the keys and get us out of their sight. I’d rather pay a little more for somewhere respectful, with honest room descriptions and helpful staff, than book a hotel that sells non-AC rooms as AC.

The personnel were nice, though not 100% punktlich. Breakfast and the bar were OK. The location is excellent: metro U6 and train S7 to the airport are five minutes away, and tram #2 to the city stops right at the main door.

We stayed for a week, and the rooms were great, though a little small for a longer visit. Ernesto, the overnight customer service man in charge, was outstanding. The hotel is away from all the Hussle, but there’s a tram right out front that takes you to everything a traveling person would want. I’d highly recommend it for small families or groups. Thanks to all the staff.

The sauna was okay, though it wouldn’t get above 80 degrees. On arrival, we found a huge piece of hair on a freshly made bed. We couldn’t sleep because the guests above us were so loud, and the house rules weren’t enforced. The internet was incredibly slow at 8Mbts/second, so I couldn’t work on my laptop. When I told the receptionist, they just said nobody else had complained, with no explanation, apology, or fix. They didn’t have chamomile tea, which is basic tea offered everywhere. The reception workers could barely speak German, and over half of the TV programs didn’t work.
