Hotel Goldene Spinne

A simple, slightly dated place, but clean and right in the centre with public transport nearby. The staff were friendly. Really, I had nothing to complain about.

The location worked well, especially for getting to and from the airport, and the staff were kind and tried to help. Still, this is a cheap, old, rather odd hotel, and the rooms are a gamble. You might get a nice one, or end up disappointed by a small, awkwardly laid-out room. Breakfast is very basic, so I wouldn't recommend it. In our first room, the sink was in the room and separate from the toilet. Then the toilet broke, and they couldn't fix it. The room faced the main road, with trains and heavy traffic, and the noise was really loud. The concierge kindly moved us to a larger room at the back, but it looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for a week. It didn't get any better during the next 3 days. There was so much dust on the little bedside table that we could have written in it. The balcony door had to stay shut because the kitchen smell was far too strong. Our toilet faced another room's balcony, so we could hear everything those guests were doing, and we could hear everything in the corridor too. Water dripped irregularly from the bath shower, waking us in the middle of the night. The mattress was hard as rock, and the pillows were extremely thin and uncomfortable. I know it's a 3*** hotel, but I still expect the basic things that are there to be clean and decent quality. If you can spend a few more bucks, go somewhere else.

For the price and location, this hotel is pretty good. You can still tell it's an old building despite the waves of reconstruction, but that didn't bother me. A bit of dust in a few spots, and the breakfast was OK. The downside is the trains stopping practically right under the windows, which you can hear.

We booked it for a night because we wanted to be near the airport train station, then realized the hotel was close to everything else too. The old building is very, very, very clean, and the room and bathroom were relatively bigger than at similar places we've stayed. The staff were friendly and really helpful. The pillows could be better, though.
