The location was convenient, the reception staff tried to help whenever we approached them, and the breakfast was well organized with staff who clearly put in effort. Still, the poor upkeep and the way payment and check-in were handled left us disappointed. We can’t rate it higher than one star. We stayed from 4-9 September and booked through Booking.com, where it clearly said no prepayment was needed and payment would be due at the property. We had arranged a late check-in and told the hotel well in advance. After the free cancellation period had ended, we were unexpectedly told there was no night receptionist and that we had to pay in full upfront to get the self check-in code. If we’d known when booking, we might have chosen differently. By then, we had to pay or risk losing the room. The stay itself was underwhelming. The property seems old and poorly maintained. Our room had no phone, safe or kettle, and the bed frames squeaked a lot. On the first night the shower drained so slowly that the tub filled up. We had to unscrew and clean the drain ourselves before we could use it again. When we reported it, we were told nothing could be done until morning, and even offered a tool to fix it ourselves. That shouldn’t be the guest’s job in a three-star hotel.

The room was decent quality for the price, and the location was good. Front desk service was friendly and competent too. Our single room was next to rooms used by some kind of school group, though, and we could hear teenagers running through the halls and yelling for much of the evening. They should arrange the rooms so the group is more separate from other guests.

The location was the only good part of our stay. We got two seventh-floor rooms without windows, even though they weren’t the rooms we had paid for. One had a very strange, long hallway, and it was cold too. We spent the afternoon out and checked in later that evening, paying for the rooms before seeing them. We regretted that. When we asked the woman with long, curly, dark brown hair for information about public transport, she answered, but seemed annoyed and bothered by the questions. The young man from Sarajevo on the night shift was very kind and knew how to treat guests. Afterward I read what other people had said and found many had experienced the same thing. Such a shame for a hotel in Vienna.

The location was the only good thing. It was easy to get to the city center by tram. On the seventh floor there was no Wi-Fi, though nobody told us that beforehand. Our room key card failed repeatedly for two nights, so we had to keep going down to the lobby to get it validated again. I don’t know what we would have done after 11 pm. The hair dryer in our room didn’t work either. Rooms were cleaned daily, but the cleaning could have been better.

The hotel was clean and looked after, and breakfast was a highlight, with fresh food and different choices each day. Its location is excellent, just a short walk from the metro, so getting around was easy. There’s also a parking garage for an additional fee, which was handy. I had a good stay overall, though the bed wasn’t as comfortable as I’d hoped. There was no fridge or microwave in the room.
