Pension Stadthalle

For somewhere I mostly needed for sleeping, this worked really well, and I’d happily come back. It’s easy to get to, and the price is great for rooms that are still tidy and comfortable. I was caught off guard that check-in was in another building, but the staff were so friendly, especially Leah. They even mailed back the second phone I’d lost there, which was really kind.

Pension Stadhalle is in a handy spot near subway stations, pubs, and restaurants, and the hotel building looked more promising from outside, with a reception and a nice garden. We didn’t go inside the hotel itself. The guesthouse is unattended, with no reception in the building. The actual hotel is on the same street, around a four-minute walk away, so we had to carry a heavy bag there to collect the key card. They offered us a room upgrade at the hotel for 40 euros extra. The guest room wasn’t very clean. The carpet looked dirty, and the shower curtain was stained with marks that looked like blood. The toilet paper looked awful, worse than what you’d find in public toilets. There was a bottle opener and two glasses, but no tea-making setup or drinking water. The bed was very low, with a thin, average-firm mattress, and the bedding was too small for a tall person. I don’t recall seeing air conditioning, so be cautious about booking in summer. The listing photos on hotel booking sites are misleading.

The room matched the photos, and it was quiet around the place. I slept very comfortably. One small downside: the toilet door is frosted glass, so you can see a bit of a silhouette, and it doesn’t block sound.

We stayed for one or two nights while attending a concert at the convention center. The Motel worked well for that. The staff were young, very friendly, and ready to help with questions.
