Rainers Hotel Vienna

We’d already paid €560 for the reservation, then had to cancel shortly before arrival because of unexpected circumstances. We understand the cancellation terms, but almost all the money was kept and just €15 came back. The hotel wouldn’t make any exception, even when we asked to restore the reservation and use the room we’d paid for. They said we’d have to pay the full price again. That was a lot of money for us, and the lack of flexibility or understanding left a very bad impression. If customer care matters to you, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Think carefully before booking if there’s any chance your plans might change.

The coffee area was covered in dust, like it hadn’t been cleaned for ages, and the supposedly single-use coasters were yellow from being reused so often. The bathroom was even worse. I couldn’t tell whether what I saw there was dirt or something stuck on, but it was shocking. The room was visibly very dirty as soon as we walked in. Even a hostel or shared dorm would have better standards than this so-called four-star hotel. If cleanliness matters to you at all, don’t stay here.

At least the rooms are spacious and bright, with high ceilings. The soundproofing was pretty good, and the beds were comfortable. But the bathroom smelled strongly of urine and the room was generally very dirty. There wasn’t clear signage or guidance to the hotel parking, and the receptionist gave us no directions or help. On top of that, the woman at reception gave us the worst welcome I’ve ever had. Honestly, she should consider another line of work.

We were sent here after our flight was canceled, with dinner clearly included in the arrangement. On arrival, we were told there’d be no dinner because “the staff didn’t show up.” No alternative was offered, and they made no real effort to help us. I went back to reception to explain that the missing staff wasn’t our fault. Then we were told we could have goulash or a Caesar salad at the bar. I briefly stepped out to get something else, and by the time I came back, suddenly the only option was toast. It was poor quality and nowhere near a proper meal. The whole service felt indifferent and inconsiderate, especially when we were already dealing with a canceled flight. We expected basic hospitality and some effort to accommodate us. The service and the hotel’s general standard were both disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it.
