Hotel Pension Stadtpark

For its location, this old-fashioned pension is moderately priced, and it could work for a very short stay. The bed wasn't comfortable, the noise insulation could be better, and the owner's unpleasant expressions when looking at our passports left a bad impression.

It's a clean hostel and good value for money, with a great location near the main mall and train station. You can walk around the whole city centre from there. Just don't expect a real three-star hotel.

We felt safe here as solo travellers, and there was no extra charge to leave our luggage. The double room, room 1, was surprisingly large, with a good shower that just drained slowly. The bed was comfortable, though it came with only one pillow; there were others available, but without covers, so I didn't want them. The room was clean when we arrived and was cleaned during our stay. Some staff were great, but the evening staff member was rude. Breakfast was very basic: a couple of breads, sliced ham and cheese, a boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, cake slices, three kinds of cornflakes, coffee, and tea. The main station is very close and easy to find. The lift works, which matters because there are several stairs. One thing to watch for: checking in after 10 pm costs €20, and after midnight there's an extra 20% charge. Overall, it was a good stay.

If you're visiting Vienna on a budget, this modest place in the centre is worth considering. Stephanplatz is a 15-minute walk away and Wien Mitte station is just three minutes away. The staff were kind and did their best to meet our needs, and the room was comfortable. Cleanliness wasn't the best I've experienced, though, and the room needs a deep vacuum. Apart from that, it was fine.
