Oliver, the owner, treated us like old friends when our car broke down on the highway in Villach. We had nowhere to go, and he helped us find a handyman and get the car repaired. Our family of five spent one night in the only room available, a small double, and we're incredibly grateful for his help and hospitality. You feel welcome here. The guesthouse is also well placed for cycling and nature walks to the lake, and the train station is nearby, so Villach center is just a few minutes away. We recommend it and hope to return for a few days by choice next time.

Coffee for the machine was provided, which was a nice touch. We had a room with a bathroom, but the bathroom smell was unbearable and hot water took several minutes to come through. The roller blind cord was stuck to the radiator, the TV speakers were broken, and the walls were extremely thin.

The cups were filthy, with coffee rings inside both and coffee on the outside. The room was unbearably hot, and lowering the heater didn't help, so I turned it off and left the window tilted open. There was a strong, unpleasant air freshener smell, as if it might be covering up the smoke smell. Smoking was supposedly banned in the rooms, but as soon as we entered building (2), smoke was obvious in both the hallway and our room. There was no reception desk, which seemed like something they really needed. We didn't enjoy the stay, and thankfully we weren't there for 24 hours.

Free parking is available, though it's quite a way outside of Villach. There is a capsule coffee machine and a refrigerator in the room, at least. The economy room feels more like a dorm for seasonal workers than a tourist guesthouse. If the bare minimum is enough for you, this might suit.
