Naturhotel Edelweiss Wagrain

The views are stunning, the communal spaces are beautiful, and the hotel itself is nicely decorated. The staff were friendly overall, and the manager was willing to look for solutions. We had some laundry after travelling for weeks, and although there isn't a guest washing machine, the staff were very helpful in finding an option. The reception also gave us very good hiking suggestions. The barman was friendly and helpful too. One fun detail: there are snakes in the natural outdoor pool, but they're not dangerous ;) I wouldn't choose this place for a family stay again, though I'd recommend it to couples or solo travellers. The family rooms are basically two double rooms joined by two doors and a blind. In family-room mode, the blind can't be hidden and sticks out into the room. There's no air conditioning or fridge either. At around €750 a night, we had high expectations. The afternoon buffet didn't meet them: the food was medium at best, and the service and quality weren't up to the price. Staff gave us conflicting answers about where we could sit. I'd checked with reception first and was told we could sit anywhere, so it was frustrating to be asked to move while eating. The buffet wasn't replenished until we asked and waited, and when I raised the issue at reception, the response was condescending. Dinner and breakfast were good, but quite standard, with no real highs or lows. The kids' pool was marked closed for maintenance on Wednesday, without any advance notice. I wondered what the maintenance involved and wasn't willing to spend time there. On Thursday the closure sign was gone and the doors were open, with no restricted-area sign, although the pool seemed in poor condition. Children were still not allowed in the main pool after 16:30. I removed the photo, but communication around the pool situation could be much better.
