Klammgut

The apartment was lovely, spacious, clean and spotless, and the place was perfect. My complaint is about the owner. Halfway through our journey, she called about the three rooms we’d booked, even though there were four of us. We had paid through Booking.com so we wouldn’t lose the reservation. She said four people only needed two rooms, and that if we wanted three, we’d have to pay extra. We explained that Booking.com showed three rooms, so we’d accepted the price she set. She said, “Take it or leave it. I’ll cancel your booking and won’t refund the money. That’s Austrian law.” We said okay and paid. She doesn’t respect guests’ privacy. She comes in without knocking or asking permission, and you’d expect her to walk into your room and say hello with a smile that’s infuriating. On the penultimate day, she came in to collect the room money in cash because she wouldn’t be there when we checked out the next day. We gave her the money.

The apartment is well equipped and finished to a high standard. In winter, you can only get there with chains or a four-wheel-drive vehicle. You can ski to and from the apartment across fields and unprepared snow. Sometimes there’s a barn smell.

The garden had simple games for the children and a barbecue area, and the view from the clean, tidy apartment was beautiful. We stayed for three days, and the family who run the place were kind and helpful.
