Gasthaus Steinberg

Agata has run this hotel for 17 years, and it feels warm and family welcoming. The staff are all friendly and do their best to make your stay comfortable. There’s plenty of parking, space for drying ski and snowboard shoes, and lots of room for breakfast and dining. My son said the fish nuggets were the best he’d ever had. The rooms are a little dated but fully equipped. The wooden headboard and footboard were the one drawback for me, since they stopped my feet from hanging over the end of the bed, which can be useful if you’re not so small. Otherwise, all was good, and I’ll return. The location is hard to beat: ten minutes from Westendorf, at the end of a road with a valley view, next to a rustic stream.

The food was fine and the staff were friendly, but the prices feel high for what you get. The bedroom was fine, though the bathroom is dated and poorly ventilated. Breakfast was okay too, but €2.50 for each roll you take for a takeaway lunch seemed too expensive.

Gasthaus Steinberg was a real pleasure to stay at. The rooms were lovely and clean, and the food was absolutely delicious. There are plenty of options for hiking or skiing, too.

We drove all the way here hoping for a late lunch on a sunny Sunday, but at 15:00 there was only one soup left on the menu, so I ended up eating nothing. The others had soup, salad, and so on. I understand the kitchen needs a break, but I’d expect more from a good restaurant on a sunny weekend. I like the place, and it’s beautiful besides that. Maybe next time we’ll arrive while the menu is still available.
