The bar is lovely and relaxing, and the barman was so entertaining. We felt very welcome, and I'd definitely come again. This was our second visit to Nierderau, and the hotel is in a fab location, just across the road from the ski lifts. The staff are amazing, really warm and friendly. Our room was big and had a lovely balcony, and the bathroom was clean with a really powerful shower. The mattresses, though, were badly sagging and needed replacing. Dinner also became repetitive and quite bland. I think it needs a bit more imagination. We all joked about how the pork might turn up that evening!

The food was excellent, and drinks, including beer, were reasonably priced compared with the UK. The staff were welcoming, and the facilities include a small pool, spa, and ski and boot room. It’s a traditional Australian hotel, around 50 metres from the nearest button lift. From there you can ski across to either of the main lifts and reach the top within a couple of minutes.

The only thing I missed was a kettle in the room, so I had to go downstairs to the restaurant whenever I wanted a cup of tea. Otherwise, it was a lovely setup: warm rooms with lots of storage, a large terrace overlooking the mountains, and free ski storage. The ski lift is just a two-minute walk across the road. You can take the drag lift and ski down to the main gondola, though it isn’t far anyway.

The winter garden bar was a cosy spot for drinks and children’s games after dinner, and the outdoor pool and spa were a treat after skiing. We were a family group of 15 staying at Hotel Simmerlwirt in Niederau, and the staff did a wonderful job making everyone comfortable. The facilities were excellent, and they catered for the vegans and vegetarians in our party. They even made a lovely chocolate cake for my wife’s birthday.

The pool was lovely to come back to at the end of the day, and the bar at the front is a really nice place to sit. Our room was huge, with a nice balcony, and the food was brilliant. Everyone on staff was friendly and attentive. The location for skiing couldn’t be better, and I’d happily stay again.
