Babenbergerhof

We stayed at Donau Lodge across the street, so we didn't use the hotel, but we had dinner at its restaurant. The food was lovely and fairly priced, from the desserts to the kids' pancakes. The beef tartare was the best I've had so far, even beating my longtime favorite in Cracow, Poland. Their menu claims they serve the area's best Wiener Schnitzel, and I can believe it. Since setting off on our bike trip in Passau, this was the first place offering proper veal schnitzel with potato salad, instead of only pork or turkey with fries. It was very good too. The interior feels upscale, and the staff were friendly and patient with our kids' selective tastes. They had no problem leaving out ingredients the kids didn't like, and didn't mind them being a bit playful. Four different people served us, but they worked together smoothly. Nothing was wrong with our orders, even after we moved from inside to outside between the main course and dessert. The place was full, yet the food and, later, the bill arrived quickly, unlike at other places we'd visited over the previous few days. Highly recommended.

We only stayed one night, but loved it. The location was perfect, breakfast was amazing, and the staff were really nice and helpful. We also had a great dinner at the restaurant.

We had a nice stay at Babenbergerhof, and Flaviu at reception gave us a very friendly welcome. The hotel, which also has the Donau lodge, feels a bit dated. Water wouldn't drain from the shower or sink, and there was an annoying buzzing sound all night, probably from the kitchen below. I didn't sleep well. The restaurant staff were friendly, and the meals and wine were good. But I was shocked to see a 19€ charge for bread on the bill. The waitress had asked whether we wanted bread with the soup, and we said yes without knowing it would cost that much. It came with butter and oils, but we hadn't asked for those or known about the charge. Breakfast had a wonderful view and a great buffet. All in all, though, the price felt high to me. It was okay.

We found a large room at a reasonable price, with a bed that was just right for me, firm enough without being too soft. The bathroom was clean and nice, though a few years old, like me. I recommend giving the restaurant downstairs a try. There's plenty to choose from and the quality is top level. Ute, I believe that was her name, made us feel relaxed and comfortable. That's how service should be. We'll definitely come back when we're in the area again.
