Appartement Schmittenblick

We discovered bed bugs as we were getting ready for bed. The beds and kitchen were dirty, and the infestation was so bad we had to leave in the middle of the night. We sent the owner proof as soon as we left, but she called us liars and insulted us. She also made false claims to us and to booking.com, then stopped responding when we tried again after sending the evidence. Maybe we were blocked, since our messages weren't delivered. She said we just wanted a free holiday, even though we never slept there. I've never dealt with ruder staff. The owner also seems to call every negative review lies, which says a lot about the owner and the establishment. Find somewhere else to stay.

The view from the windows was nice, and the location was quiet. The apartment had comfortable beds, parking, and rustic, traditional decor throughout. Check-in and checkout times were restricted, which I don't understand since the landlord lives in the same building. Still, it's a secure and good choice.

We had to go to the Police after being told to leave at 9:00 am on Sunday or lose the 300 Euro deposit. We'd left the apartment in perfect condition, despite having to rush out, and had no invoice or confirmation that the 300 Euros would be released. The owners told booking.com we hadn't been guests, and we were blocked from writing a review until we eventually got our money back. At arrival, the owner demanded advance payment for four people when there were only three of us, plus a 300 Euro kaution that wasn't in our booing conditions. We were also asked to sign the House rules but weren't given a copy. This was the most horrible hotel experience ever. The apartment owners were aggressive and rude.

This was the worst accommodation experience of our lives. We scratched the house paint by 10cm while parking out in the morning, admitted it, and planned to settle it reasonably that evening. The owner then demanded 2.000 EUR, was rude, and tried to kick us out. We insisted on calling the police; they recommended handling it as a standard insurance case, while the owner stayed hidden in his apartment and sent his wife to deal with them. Before that, we had been threatened over email and SMS with a 100 EUR late check-in fine for arriving after 6PM, charged the full amount on arrival, and required to put a 500 EUR deposit hold on our credit card for possible damage. Those terms felt very far from the Austrian standard and different from the warm welcome I've always experienced in Austria. I can't recommend this place to anybody. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT COMING CLOSE TO THIS HOUSE!
