Hotel Der Waldhof

Sebastian 1 and 2 are lovely, and I really love the hotel and its bar. The two Argentinian guys working there gave me the most spectacular service. The bar at Waldorf is the best in the city. Thank you, I'll definitely be back next year!

The indoor pool was great, but far too busy. There were piles of dirty towels on the floor and no changing facilities, so we'd have had to take the lift or walk through the hotel in wet swimwear and towels. The soft play was good, but there were no chairs for parents, and you couldn't leave your children there. For skiing with small kids, the location wasn't great: it's a 10-minute walk with equipment to the nearest lift, and the bus still leaves you with a short walk. We upgraded to a junior suite, but there was no kettle or water in the room. The children's pillows and duvets were very basic and had no covers. Robes and kettles came with hidden charges. We also found the reception staff unhelpful and unfriendly, and the manager Joseph was rude. We had high hopes for Waldhof, but left disappointed.

We'd booked and paid in advance, but got a very dirty room with insects in it. We told the hotel and nobody did anything. The food was 3 out of 10, enough to get by, but you're better off eating out. The place isn't close to the slopes or ski lift either. There was no free car charging spot, and the hotel didn't know whose car was charging, so they couldn't tell other guests when it was fully charged. In practice, you couldn't charge. The two young people at reception were rude and unprofessional, sending us elsewhere to use hotel services or get help with anything complicated.

There were silverfish in the rooms, so be careful not to take them home in your luggage. Our family room had no pillow in the kids' bed, and the carpets were very dirty. The rooms felt old and unclean, and the toilets weren't cleaned well. You have to rent a bathrobe for 7 euros, which seems funny for a 4-star hotel. There weren't even ear pads in the bathroom, and the shampoo was so bad it damaged my hair. The outdoor pool was closed and out of use, but that wasn't mentioned when we booked. For this price, we've had much better stays elsewhere in Austria. We've been to plenty of hotels in Austria, Italy and Germany geared toward ski season, and compared with those, this one isn't even two stars. It felt like they were trying to save money on every small thing.
