Nightcap at Playford Tavern

I expected a bit of noise from the pub, but the rooms are above the bistro rather than the main bar, and I didn’t hear anything from the riff Raff. It really doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping above a pub. For a tavern, the room was a surprise. It seemed freshly renovated and very comfortable, with secure card access, modern bathroom amenities, clean linen and a pretty comfortable bed. The room itself was very clean too, with a smart TV and the usual tea and coffee. There was complimentary water in the fridge and a drink at the bar, plus lollies. The water was a welcome extra for someone like me who hasn’t acquired a taste for Adelaide water, if such a taste exists. The lollies helped in case you accidentally get a taste of the tap water and need to get rid of it. All the features you’d expect from a chain hotel, just without the view. Impressed and happy to stay again. A real diamond in the rough.

The staff were at least friendly, but I was really disappointed. The high speed internet didn’t work at all, and the showers were pretty disgusting. A lot of things were broken, including the ironing board and toilet paper holders. There was a terrible stench from the drains and a bad smell overall. The mugs and spoons left in my room were caked with old food.

We got a 10% discount on the meal and a free drink each because we had a room booked. The food was okay, but I wouldn’t revisit the Bistro. They had a self-serve salad and hot vegetables bar with every main meal, but it was dirty, with other customers breathing all over it and no care for other customers. By the time our meals arrived, nothing was left. The accommodation itself was nice, with a clean room, a King bed and a great shower. Noise from the room across woke us a couple of times, but after a 12 hour drive it was okay. Customer service and hospitality could use some work. Check-in took an extra long time, and there are two flights of stairs, so don’t book a room if you can’t do stairs.

My husband drives a truck and arrived last night, but nobody answered when he tried to get in. He ended up sleeping in the car in the parking lot, and now he has to move on. Don't book here. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
