Oval Hotel at Adelaide Oval

The bright, modern main areas still have a good atmosphere, and the room was nicely laid out with a great view, a comfortable bed, and lovely bedding. But this was our second stay because the location suits our event, and the disappointment carried on into 2025. Last year I can't remember the floor, but that corridor smelled awful and the carpet was stained. On the fourth floor this time there was no bad smell, though the carpet was heavily stained on one side, as if half of it had flooded. All the pillows were too high for me, and I woke with a very sore neck. The bathroom light was harsh, with no in-between setting for makeup. Shower amenities were low and poor quality, leaving a slippery film that disappeared before they could lather. The shower itself was good, though could be a little hotter for people who like very hot water. The bathroom outlets wouldn't work with my curler. At this price and rating, toothbrushes and toothpaste should be supplied, along with a dark towel option for women who need one. There was no instant coffee, biscuits, or milk in the room. At midnight reception said the instant machine was out of service for cleaning. Coffee should be free and available around the clock at a hotel of this price and rating. I tried room service for milk, but the supplied tablet didn't work, and the hotel services number showed an error. I had to call reception from my mobile. I hope nobody has an emergency. Breakfast was a joke: very high prices for small, disappointing servings. A croissant was $16, and four little button mushrooms cost $6. Coffee took over 30 minutes, the food nearly as long, and drinks arrived at different temperatures. My partner works in hospitality management and wasn't impressed. We chose valet parking for the first time, but had to struggle with our bags and load the car ourselves, which is what I thought the extra fee was for. Next year we'll stay elsewhere, even though the location is convenient. We want value, an affordable and generous breakfast, and basic kitchenette supplies like instant coffee sachets.

The room was made for a good night's sleep, with comfortable mattresses and pillows, and the views were great. It also had free coffee and complimentary water, plus curtains and lights operated by iPad, sensors, or buttons. The swimming pool and gym are about a one-minute drive away. A very advanced, well-equipped stay for holidays, work, or other trips.

I don't usually leave reviews, but our night at the Oval Hotel really stood out. Every room seemed to bring a fresh view across Adelaide, with the cathedral the best of them. After a night out in the city, I came home feeling like the stay had been hard to fault.

We stayed January 1, 2026, as a group of eight, and the staff welcomed us warmly. Our room was quite large, though my cousin and I think it may have been an accessible room. The beds were a little firm for me but still comfortable. From our window we could see the eastern gate of Adelaide Oval. The hotel's facilities are on War Memorial Drive, about a five-minute walk away. Mini bar prices were what you'd expect at a hotel, and reception will give you a complimentary drink if you ask. Breakfast didn't have a huge range, but it was great, with a view of the oval. I'd stay again for the central North Adelaide location, not far from the CBD.
