The room was clean and cosy, and wallabies were all around the cottage, including albinos. The one drawback was the shower: there was no door or curtain, so water can splash out, and that setup may not suit everyone.

The floor-to-ceiling windows let in early morning light and bright moonlight, which could bother light sleepers. I used a sleep mask to deal with it. Otherwise, we really enjoyed this roomy studio apartment. It has an alpine chalet look, with exposed timber and stone and cathedral ceilings, and sits well back from the road in a quiet, private rural setting with lots of wallabies. It’s tastefully furnished and has what an independent traveller needs, including a modern kitchen and huge bathroom. Our host was easy to reach and shared lots of helpful information about staying on Bruny Island.

The hosts were lovely and attentive, and even tracked down my husband’s glasses after he left them behind, then promptly posted them to us. We spent two lovely nights at The Studio. It was beautiful, spacious and had everything we needed, including a well-equipped kitchen and laundry, so we could take a break from hotels and restaurants. The location worked perfectly for us, a short drive from the Bruny Island Cruise harbour. We came back freezing cold and were soon warming up in front of the fire. I’d highly recommend Adventure Bay Retreat for a Bruny Island visit.

After a big bush walk up the fluted cape, I loved having a long soak in that gorgeous bath. The Studio had a huge bathroom, a very comfortable bed and a little balcony where we enjoyed the wallabies. It was well stocked with cooking gear, and we liked the small coffee machine and the pods left for us. We ate at home both nights.

We planned our evening meals in the well-equipped kitchen because the wildlife meant we didn’t head out at night. The oven was tricky to use and could do with clearer, simpler instructions. In the mornings, a big family of wallabies greeted us from the front deck, very friendly and perhaps used to being fed by previous guests. We spent two peaceful, cosy nights at the Lodge. The warm fireplace was welcome on a cold night, and the comfy beds and modern facilities made it a lovely place to unwind.
