The rooms are the real surprise here: spacious, thoughtfully laid out and easily the cleanest we’ve stayed in. Ours had everything we needed, including a small kitchenette with a sink and microwave, a little dining area, lounge, bed, TV and air conditioning. The pool looked very inviting and well maintained, though we didn’t get to use it. Avlon Gardens Motel is a reasonably priced hidden gem in Ballina. The building is older, probably from around the 1980s, but that doesn’t reflect what it’s like inside. Reception was faultless, friendly and welcoming, and they knew the local area well. It’s near the bowling club and a short drive from the main street and its eateries. You can also walk into town easily.

We chose this motel because we could park our 4WD with camper trailer on the grounds. The owner was onsite, friendly and very helpful. It’s reasonably central, near a shopping centre and just two blocks from the bowling club, which has great meals. The river is a 15-plus-minute walk away. Our first-floor room was roomy, with a square table and two seats as well as two more comfy seats. The bed was comfortable. There was tea and coffee, a microwave, toaster, cutlery, bowls and plates. The bathroom was small, though the shower pressure was great. It was hot, so we left the aircon on all night, set to quiet.

Olivia was so lovely to deal with. Everything I could want was in the room, which was clean and comfortable, with good coffee and quality sheets. I could pull the curtains closed to make it nice and dark, and slept really well.

Booking online was easy, and the weekend price was reasonable. The room had all the equipment and facilities needed, and was clean and comfortable, even if it felt like a trip back to the 70s. The service was excellent. Highly recommend.

I got lost thanks to Google, but the manager guided me away from the back roads Google kept trying to send me down. She even waited past closing time to make sure I arrived safely. Very friendly and helpful. The place was spotlessly clean, tastefully refurbished where needed, and the bed was super comfortable.
