The course was a real treat, and playing twice in very windy weather made it even more challenging. I was on my own, so I was paired with members. Beck kindly showed me the lines and tricky parts of the course. The greens have subtle breaks but roll very true. It’s a must play and worth the drive from Melbourne. The clubhouse is beautiful, and the rooms are very nice and comfortable. I stayed at the Barwon Heads Golf Club on the full board package. The Barramundi special was one of the best meals I’ve had in Australia, even after staying at several five star hotels on this trip. Thanks to Oscar for recommending it.

The course was in great condition and had a great traditional links style. The clubhouse is beautiful, but I’m there to play golf, not sit in it. For the service I got, the green fees felt over the top. There are plenty of nearby courses with similar style and condition that cost much less. The clubhouse receptionist seemed full of herself and wasn’t very pleasant.

Barwon Heads Golf Club is in a beautiful location, with amazing views for members playing a round. It has great facilities, plus a restaurant and bar for members and visitors playing golf. The building is beautiful and currently undergoing construction and renovations.

The clubhouse at Barwon Heads is full of history, and one of the most impressive we’ve seen on our golfing travels. We took our time looking at the old photos and hickory clubs in the hallways. The course has no hidden hazards or bunkers. As our host, a marvelous player whose game I envied, said, what you see is what you get, and that made for a great test of golf. The par threes are spectacular, with distances that had me using everything from an 8 iron to a 4 iron. They face different directions, so the wind was always a factor. Holes three through six stood out in particular. The fairways have undulating slopes and consistently offer lovely tight lies. The winter rough wasn’t penal, though a longer summer cut might be different.

Great layout and location, in very good condition, and the greens were superb, the best I’ve played in Australia this year.
